Laptop Program

February  2015 Bar Exam

 

Applicants may use their own Windows or Mac laptops to complete their essay responses during the examination.  To provide for fairness to all applicants, reliable capture and delivery of applicant answer records and ease of use, special software must be used.  The software, known as SofTest, is provided by ExamSoft Worldwide, Inc. and prevents access during an exam session to any files or programs on the computer other than the word processing function of the software. Answers may be typed in a format that resembles common word-processors (underline, bold, italics, center, justify, variable indent, etc.).  Answer responses are automatically saved and backed up very frequently to promote data integrity.  Files are downloaded and uploaded before and after the exam, but Internet connectivity is disabled during the exam. 

Applicants who wish to use a laptop must comply with all instructions regarding downloading and use of the software.  To participate in the laptop program you must:

  • Confirm your laptop computer meets the minimum specifications and is configured for access to the Internet. You must know how to connect to the Internet with your laptop – assistance will not be provided.

  • Review the details regarding laptop use in Missouri in this Laptop Testing Information Handbook.

  • Review the information found on the ExamSoft Support Website, which includes the minimum system requirements, an extensive Knowledge Base, Help, Live Chat and SofTest Demo Videos. 

  • Answer “YES” to the question in the application for bar exam (“Do you plan to register for the Laptop Program?”). You will receive an e-mail with instructions for registering the laptop and downloading the software the first day of SofTest registration. The period to download the software for the February 2015 bar examination in Missouri will begin  January 6, 2015, 9:00 AM (Central Time) and end February 6, 2015, 3:00 PM (Central Time).  You must upload a mock exam by this deadline.

  • ExamSoft will charge a licensing fee at the time of SofTest registration.

  • Install the SofTest software onto your laptop and upload a Mock Exam by the download deadline above set for each exam period.  The Password to open a Mock Exam is 'test'.  Passwords for the other two files (MPT & MEE) will be provided at the examination.  This process must be completed each time you sit for the bar examination, regardless of any previous ExamSoft registrations you may have completed for this or any other examination.

  • Assume all risk of using your laptop to take the bar examination. No extra time or other relief will be provided in the event of any malfunction of your computer or the software, or any electrical or other technical difficulties. Always be prepared to hand write your exam in the event you cannot use your laptop. Answer books will be available upon request during the exam.

  • Upload your exam answers via the Internet by 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday,  the last day of the examination.
